LoRaWAN and IoT Infrastructure in Bushehr Port

Execution Date:2020
Client Name:Bushehr Ports and Maritime Authority
Project Overview
In 2020, Ronika successfully designed, manufactured, and installed three LoRaWAN gateways and one LoRaWAN network management server for the Ports and Maritime Organization of Bushehr. Furthermore, a complete IoT infrastructure and communication network based on the ThingsPod IoT platform has been established within the organization. This new infrastructure will facilitate the rapid development of customized smart solutions.
Ronika is a knowledge-based company that creates customized smart products and services using modern technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence, digital twins, and more. The initial critical step for industries to transition to Industry 5.0 is the development and deployment of scalable infrastructure that enables the adoption of various smart solutions. Ronika is contributing to this effort by providing IoT infrastructure products and services that help foster an environment conducive to enhancing innovation in industries.
Project Objectives
As maritime trade continues to grow, improving efficiency in port and maritime sectors has become essential. To achieve this, developing new infrastructure is crucial. Implementing Internet of Things (IoT) systems and LoRaWAN gateways at ports can significantly enhance operations. These technologies enable optimal monitoring and management of equipment, infrastructure, and port processes.
IoT connects devices and sensors, allowing for the collection and real-time analysis of data. In ports, this technology facilitates monitoring of cargo movements, improving container security, tracking locations, and managing marine traffic. For instance, advanced global ports have successfully utilized RFID and GIS technologies to enhance data management and monitoring.
By investing in IoT and LoRaWAN gateway infrastructure at the Ports and Maritime Organization, we can achieve improved efficiency, heightened safety, and reduced costs. This investment will be a significant step toward the modernization of ports and the enhancement of maritime services.
Key Results and Achievements
Real-time data regarding ship and container conditions, and loading/unloading operations
Improved location tracking and monitoring of goods in transit
Decreased costs and anticipating equipment failures and maintenance requirements

Project Implementation
In the initial phase of the project, Ronika successfully designed, produced, and installed three LoRaWAN gateways, along with one LoRaWAN network management server in the Port of Bushehr. Additionally, a complete IoT infrastructure and communication network based on the ThingsPod IoT platform has been established within the organization.
With this infrastructure in place, future phases of the project will focus on monitoring and controlling 50 searchlight towers using this system. Plans are also in development to enable real-time tracking of all vehicles, machinery, and personnel on the premises, allowing for precise location monitoring.
The ThingsPod platform is an essential part of this infrastructure as a comprehensive solution for managing devices, as well as for collecting, processing, and visualizing IoT data. It offers features such as data collection and storage through various protocols, device management and security, rule engine processing, and graphical data visualization, which collectively facilitate the smart and efficient management of IoT infrastructures.
